The Mohican Young Professionals, a new organization committed to enhancing regional professional development and aiding in the growth of the Mohican area, is playing host to its first public event Saturday, May 6, at Landoll's Mohican Castle Event Center.
Social hour begins at 6 p.m., and the main event, a performance by comedian Josh Alton, starts at 7.
According to Jimmy Landoll, president of the organization formed in February as a program of the Loudonville-Mohican Chamber of Commerce, "Alton is a rarity among standup comedians, as he is an athlete turned comedian. After playing his final college football game, Alton hung up his cleats and shoulder pads and picked up a microphone, eventually becoming a regular performer at several Chicago comedy clubs," Landoll said. "He also was a part of ... standup comedy documentaries ... and once did a commercial for the AMC channel."
The event is open to everyone. Admission is $5, with proceeds supporting future events of the Mohican Young Professionals (MYP). A full bar and appetizers will be available. Tickets are available at the door or at www.eventbrite.com
"Our programming plan is to hold an event once a month, and a big event, like this comedy program, every three months," said Noah Schenk, a member of the MYP.
"At our first two events, in March and April, we attracted between 40 to 50 persons," said fellow member, Kristin Wilson.
Landoll said the MYP was created by local professionals between the ages of 18 and 40.
"Our intention is to include not just folks from the Loudonville area, but surrounding communities as well," he said. "We had folks from Butler and Ashland at our last meeting. Our goal is to attract young people and get them involved in our area, with the hopes for creating a thriving area with good job opportunities so we can get people to stay here."
Fellow officers in the MYP with Landoll are Dr. Dakota Zickefoose, vice president; Kari Reidenbach, secretary; and Colleen Virgili, treasurer. Other heavily involved members along with Wilson and Schenk are Kenny Libben, Cooper Charlton and T.J. Truax.
