A 70-year-old Ashland man pleaded guilty to the rape of a 13-year-old girl Monday.

Paul E. Cyrus entered his plea during a hearing in front of Ashland County Common Pleas Judge Ronald P. Forsthoefel.

Cyrus entered the plea to a charge contaned in a bill of information by the Ashland County Prosecutor's Office, which was filed May 9. Cyrus was originally charged via criminal complaint and arrested March 21. The criminal complaint was filed March 23. Both the complaint and bill of information contained one count of rape, a first-degree felony. The documents indicate Cyrus had sexual contact with his victim from May 1, 2016, through March 21, 2017.

The case had been bound over to the Ashland County Grand Jury after a preliminary hearing was conducted on March 30.

Cyrus had previously pleaded not guilty to the charge on March 27.

During the hearing, assistant county prosecutor Christopher Ballard said there were no further considerations from the state of Ohio with the plea agreement aside from Cyrus' guilty plea to the rape charge.

Forsthoefel ordered a pre-sentence investigation report be conducted and scheduled a sentencing hearing for Cyrus on June 26.
