Grace Arnholt of Loudonville will celebrate her 96th birthday on July 24, 2017. She celebrated with family at her daughter Tanya Liston's home on July 2.
Grace was born in 1921 to Lewis and Margaret (nee Mapes) Parrott and has been a Loudonville and Perrysville resident all her life. In 1939, Grace married Herschel Derrow at her parents' Pine Run home in Loudonville. They had three daughters before Herschel's passing on May 25, 1964. In 1968, Grace married Roy Arnholt in Loudonville at First Baptist Church. Roy passed away March 29, 1982.
Grace was one of five girls and worked with her father in the fields while growing up. After marrying Herschel, they farmed for several years. In 1954, she and Herschel went into business which began a long entrepreneurial career for her until the sale of D's Dari-Ette in September, 2013. Grace has owned D's Restaurant, Derrow's Drygoods, Pam's Shoppe, D's Dari-Ette, GA Ceramics and Thunderbird Gallery all which were located in Loudonville.
By example, Grace taught her daughters that with hard work and determination they could accomplish anything they desired. Her children are Donna (Cork) Cowell of Loudonville, Pam (Bill) Bemrose of Blackstock, South Carolina, and Tanya (Scott) Liston of Loudonville.
Grandchildren are Marcia (Kevin) Chaney of Shreve, Shawn (Amy Szopa) Cowell of Columbus, Destiny (Bryan) Secrist of Blackstock, South Carolina, Tyler (Sara) Liston of Parker, Colorado. Great-grandchildren are McKenzie Secrist of Blackstock, South Carolina, Senior Airman Jared Chaney of Clovis, New Mexico, and Jonathan Secrist of Blackstock, South Carolina. Granddaughter Cassidy Johns of Loudonville passed away on March 12, 2012. Another great-grandchild is expected this September.
Grace's stepchildren are Ed (Vickie) Arnholt and Sherry (Dan) Kiner, both of Perrysville. Ed and Vickie have a son, Brad. Sherry and Dan have a daughter, Stacey and son, Denny.
Grace now enjoys living at McMullen Assisted Care where she is pampered, has many friends and activities and is free to come and go as she pleases.
