Helen Jean Bowman, 92, formerly of South Mount Vernon Avenue, Loudonville, died Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Colonial Manor Health Care Center after an extended illness.
She was born July 7, 1924, in Fort Myers, Florida, and was the adopted daughter of Fred and Virginia MacMillan. In 1941, she and her mother moved to Mansfield, where she met and married William "Bill" Bowman in 1944. They were married for 55 years before his death on Nov. 19, 1999.
She worked for Hartman Electric in Mansfield as well as JC Penney Co. Helen was a member of Loudonville Baptist Temple. She attended Fort Myers Senior High School but earned her high school diploma in 2014 from Loudonville High School with the help of her "angels" Kerrie MacQueen and Debbie Pabst of Colonial Manor. She enjoyed bingo, word search puzzles, board games, dining out and walking.
She is survived by three sisters-in-law, Judith Bowman of Loudonville, Mary Jo Bowman of Mount Gilead and Bonnie Bowman of Ashland; three special nieces, Judy Foster of Ashland, Lori Ann Brenneman of Shreve and Toni Dunham of Loudonville; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers-in-law, Charles, Bob, Doyle, Max, Jack, Rex and Curt Bowman; and four sisters-in-law, Helen Marshall, Loretta Lazo, Midge Miller and Norma LeMaitre.
A funeral service was 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2017, at Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville. The Rev. David Koehler officiated. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery, Perrysville. Friends were able to visit one hour before the service, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
